Jemour A. Maddux Psy.D., ABPP is an elected member and 2023 Chair of the American Psychological Association (APA)’s Committee on Professional Practice and Standards. Dr. Maddux has contributed to the development of various policy statements, amicus briefs, and practice guidelines for the APA and the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC). He chaired the Task Force that developed APSAC’s Practice Guidelines for Forensic Mental Health Evaluations When Child Maltreatment Is at Issue. He was appointed to the 6-member work group that revised APA’s Guidelines for Child Custody Evaluations in Family Law Proceedings. He was also appointed to the 7-member work group revising APA’s Guidelines for Psychological Evaluations in Child Protection Matters.

Dr. Maddux is a postdoctoral instructor in forensic psychology and core faculty in the Doctor of Psychology Program at The William Paterson University. He is the past president of the New York State Psychological Association’s Forensic Division and he served two terms on APSAC’s Board of Directors – initiating its Commission for Racial Justice in Child Maltreatment. Dr. Maddux has consulted for the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice. He co-edited a text on evaluating trauma in forensic contexts and serves as a Contributing Editor of the journal Psychological Injury and Law. He is on the editorial team of the Oxford University Press Book Series, “Best Practices in Forensic Mental Health Assessment.” He also serves as an Associate Editor of an interdisciplinary book series sponsored by the American Psychology-Law Society (APA Division 41).

Dr. Maddux is licensed in Michigan, New York, and New Jersey, in addition to practicing under PSYPACT. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Psychology and serves on its Practice Documents Committee. He is American Board of Forensic Psychology (ABFP) faculty. He is also board certified in forensic psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). At the time of this writing, only three psychologists with offices in New Jersey have earned this credential – the only board certification in forensic psychology recognized by APA.

Dr. Maddux has worked as a therapist within three prison facilities, and as a forensic evaluator within the Bronx County Family Court and the Audrey Hepburn Children’s House Regional Child Abuse and Diagnostic Center. He is a solo in full-time private practice at Lamb + Maddux, LLC. where Dr. Maddux and consultants provide forensic assessments of ability, risk, and psychological injury in family, civil, sentencing, and law enforcement cases. Dr. Maddux also trains psychologists evaluating minors in personal injury cases and develops resources for their practice community. Dr. Maddux is currently under contract with APA Publishing to write Psychological Evaluation of Children in Personal Injury Lawsuits – a pioneering book on this subject.

As an advocate, Dr. Maddux’s interests include raising awareness of policies that weaken disadvantaged youth and families. He enjoys the outdoors, working on boulder problems, and jogging. He continues to rank in the top-10 Rutgers University outdoor pole vaulters of all-time and he maintains high school records in the outdoor high jump, triple jump, and pole vault.
